[PAST EVENT] Reflections on Democracy: Processing the Election with Expert Insights
Access & Features
- Open to the public
- Registration/RSVP
Join us on 11/12 for a timely virtual discussion featuring Liz Losh, Professor of English and American Studies, and Jaime Settle, Cornelia Brackenridge Talbot Professor of Government, both highly respected W&M faculty and renowned experts. They will help us navigate the complexities of democracy one year after their episode on the Democracy Initiative podcast series.
Liz and Jaime will share reflections of the election informed by their research on digital communication, polarization, and civic engagement. Following their discussion, Emily Gerst, W&M's inaugural Director of Conflict Resolution & Education, will guide participants through facilitated breakout groups. These sessions will be framed by the "Better Arguments" framework, encouraging open dialogue, listening, and understanding even in moments of disagreement.
Learn from experts, engage in thoughtful reflection, and connect with others during a crucial time for American democracy. Join us on 11/12 to connect with the wider William & Mary community of students, alumni, and employees to practice the Better Arguments framework and other techniques for engaging across difference and navigating post-election dialogue.
