Illustrious Fishes
Join {{http://valkellsillustration.com/,noted marine-science illustrator Val Kells}} as she describes her craft--and explores the continuing value of drawings and paintings in a world that's awash in high-resolution photographs from digital cameras. Kells has worked for more than 25 years with scientists, curators, designers, and writers to create aesthetic, accurate, and detailed illustrations for exhibits in public aquariums, museums, and nature centers. Her work has also been extensively published in books and periodicals. Most recently, she created 227 full-color fish illustrations for the Field Guide to Fishes of the Chesapeake Bay. Kells will sign copies of that book following her talk, along with co-author and VIMS emeritus professor Jack Musick.
Kells' presentation is the September installment of the 2013 After Hours Lecture Series at the Virginia Institute of Marine Science.
Reservations to this free public lecture series are required due to limited space. {{http://events.constantcontact.com/register/event?llr=dfaqgicab&oeidk=a07e7q9uq6b7f5ad32f,Register to attend in person}} or call 804-684-7846 for further information. {{http://events.constantcontact.com/register/event?llr=dfaqgicab&oeidk=a07e7q9w3au99cf7085, Register to view the online webinar}}.
