Arts at W&M
[PAST EVENT] The Art of Weaving Workshop
Access & Features
- Registration/RSVP
Immerse yourself in the art of weaving by joining us for a workshop with Kate Koconis, owner/creator of L.B.S. Studio, a small textile arts studio in Toano, Virginia. A docent from the Muscarelle will present works of art from the Museum’s permanent collection, highlighting the diverse ways that artists incorporate woven patterns, textures and materials into their work.
Following the presentation, Kate will lead the group in a frame loom weaving workshop. Using a handheld frame loom, you will explore the essentials of weaving. You’ll learn about weaving basics, warp and weft, and a plain weave structure, along with a couple other weaving techniques based on the works of art presented. By the end of the workshop, you will have created a small woven sampler to take home. No previous weaving experience is needed and all materials will be supplied.
Workshop fee: Muscarelle Members, W&M faculty, staff and students: $30; Non-members: $45
