[PAST EVENT] Art & Art History's Distinguished Speaker of the Year, Elizabeth Boone '70, to lecture
October 13, 2016
5pm - 6pm
Elizabeth Boone's lecture, "Spatial Grammars: The Union of Art and Writing in the Painted Books of Aztec Mexico", introduces the audience to the painted books and pictographic writing system of the Aztecs and their neighbors, exploring how the painted figures and images work within different spatial structures to convey information.
Dr. Boone says, "In particular it reflects my recent interest in the way the flat surface that supports the images is an active field that charges the marks with distinct meanings and thereby shapes the message."
Please join us for this lecture on October 13th, 5-6pm in the Ewell Hall recital room 107. A reception will follow.Contact
