Access & Features
- Open to the public

Huwe was only 16 years old when he was convicted of murdering his mother and sentenced to 15 years to life. Through the use of psychologically coercive techniques, detectives coerced Mr. Burton to admit to a false confession. He served 19 years before he was released on parole.
The Innocence Project took Mr. Burton's case after he had been released. With the use of new scientific and scholarly research about false confessions, and producing the real offender's prior conviction history, Mr. Burton's conviction and sentence were vacated in 2019. By then, he had carried a wrongful conviction for approximately 28 years.
