Founded in the mid-nineteenth century, the University of Exeter is one of the United Kingdom's most popular and successful universities. A diverse range of courses is offered at Exeter through its seventeen academic schools, and the University was ranked 9th in the UK in the Sunday Times University Guide 2012. It was also ranked runner-up for the Sunday Times University of the Year award. W&M students may take courses from the full university curriculum, with the exception of music or chemistry courses. Business courses may also be taken. Please note, 30 Exeter credits are equivalent to 8 W&M credits.

Exeter boasts both urban and rural areas, along with a beautiful stretch of beaches that make it a popular tourist destination. The Streatham Campus in Exeter is widely acknowledged as the most beautiful in the UK. Approximately two hours by train from London, Exeter has all the excitement of a big city with the charm and comfort of a small town. Places of interest include the medieval Cathedral, Royal Albert Memorial Museum and Art Gallery, and Exeter Phoenix, a thriving arts center. The cities of Bath, Oxford, Bristol, and Plymouth are all less than two hours away.

The tuition exchange agreement between the College of William & Mary and the University of Exeter allows W&M students to pay their regular tuition to W&M while taking classes at Exeter. The exchange program is best for VA in-state students. Students not chosen for the exchange program have the option of assisted enrollment. Assisted enrollment requires W&M students to pay tuition to Exeter University. Out-of-state students often find assisted enrollment the best option. All W&M students will pay housing, meals and other on site in Exeter.
