[PAST EVENT] Focus ON Faculty Support: Letters of Recommendation and Beyond
February 24, 2014
5:30pm - 6:30pm
This Focus ON is designed to acquaint students with the etiquette associated with communicating with professors on professional and personal levels. We will begin with student-professor contact in the classroom and work our way to the realm of requesting faculty assistance for pursuing future opportunities. It will provide students with the skills and confidence to:
1) Build working, mutually supportive academic relationships with their professors;
2) Explore research opportunities that professors may be able to provide; and
3) Ask professors for letters of recommendation for scholarship applications.
We will also have a panel of faculty representatives from departments in the Humanities, Social Sciences, and Natural Sciences join us. These professors will discuss their personal experiences with student-professor interactions and share their insight into common and effective communication strategies particular to students in their fields of study. So if you are worried about approaching a professor to discuss anything from an assignment to a post-graduate academic opportunity, this is the presentation for you!
