The W&M in Washington Program (W&M in DC) is designed to reinforce lessons learned in the classroom with real world experience. It is open to students in all majors and disciplines, and as such, course and semester themes are designed to reach the largest number of students. The Fall 2012 Semester theme is "The Ethics of Sustainability" taught by Professor Mark Fowler of the Environmental Sciences and Policy Department.
Students receive 6-8 credits for their course work and an additional 6 credits for the academic work they complete in association with their internship. Classes are held at the W&M Washington Office in Dupont Circle and taught by W&M Professors.
Students spend 30-35 hours per week at their internships. The mission of the internship locations will sync with the semester's theme, The Ethics of Sustainability.
Program students live in group apartments in The Buchanan, located only 3 metro stops outside of the city in Arlington, VA. It is a safe and secure housing complex, complete with fitness center and large common rooms.
