In her book, Poetic Operations: Algorithmic Analysis for Trans of Color Poetics, cardenas proposes algorithmic analysis as a method of extending intersectionality, and uses this new method to articulate trans of color poetics. Building on Jasbir Puar's work extending intersectionality through assemblage, I propose that algorithms can provide additional ways of holding the complexity of the situation for trans women of color. The book begins with the example of DNI from Guiseppe Campuzano, and considers Laverne Cox's claim that we are in a state of emergency for trans people through the lens of necropolitics. Poetic Operations learns from women of color feminism and queer of color critique by centering the experience and the words of trans people of color. Poetic Operations demonstrates three methods of algorithmic analysis: identifying operators, breaking a problem down into its components and steps; creating my own resistant algorithms; and analyzing existing algorithms.

micha cardenas, PhD, is Assistant Professor of Art & Design: Games + Playable Media at the University of California, Santa Cruz. cardenas is writing a new algorithm for gender, race and technology. Her book in progress, Poetic Operations, proposes algorithmic analysis as a means to develop a trans of color poetics. cardenas's co-authored books, The Transreal: Political Aesthetics of Crossing Realities (2012) and Trans Desire/ Affective Cyborgs (2010) were published by Atropos Press.

Her artwork has been described as "a seminal milestone for artistic engagement in VR" by the Spike art journal in Berlin. She is a first generation Colombian American, born in Miami.
