Art and technology have the unique ability to build connections and to inspire action. Augmented Island Studios and mural artist Eric Skotnes are working together to develop murals and immersive Augmented Reality (AR) experiences that are designed to connect people to nature and to engage local communities in conservation action. Inspired by their work, the Institute for Integrative Conservation (IIC) is partnering with the City of Williamsburg, the W&M Office of Sustainability, the W&M Art & Art History Department, and a team of professional programmers and artists to host an Immersive Conservation Mural Pitch Competition this spring. We invite interdisciplinary teams of W&M students to pitch an idea for a mural and a corresponding AR experience designed to engage the Williamsburg community in meaningful conservation action. Winning teams will receive a $300 prize and an opportunity to work alongside professional programmers and artists (already identified) to implement the mural and AR experience in fall 2021.

W&M students interested in participating in the competition should visit the IIC website to learn more. The registration deadline is March 24th.

The Virtual Mural Pitch Competition is open to the public and will be held on April 9th. Register below.
