Oysters are one of the most important species in Chesapeake Bay. They provide habitat for reef organisms, filter sediments and other particulates out of the water, and support an important fishery. Join Anu Frank-Lawale, Breeding Research Manager at VIMS' Aquaculture Genetics and Breeding Technology Center, as he introduces the Eastern Oyster and the oyster research being done at VIMS. Students from the Williamsburg Montessori Middle School-who have spent a year studying and growing oysters-will present several activities and displays showing what they have learned. Participants can expect microscopes, dissection, kids' activities, and informational displays.
