Dominican Bachata: Exploring Embodied Memories and Oral Histories

Adam Taub is widely recognized for his innovative and interdisciplinary presentation style, which combines a multimedia lecture and embodied pedagogy: dance. Putting theory into practice, Taub has been invited to present his work at dozens of dance festivals nationally and internationally as well as cultural centers and universities around the United States.

Taub?s film credits include La Quincea?era, a work that follows the 15th birthday of a young woman in Tijuana, Mexico (2007), The Duke of Bachata (2009), a feature documentary on emerging bachatero ? Joan Soriano, of the Dominican Republic, and Juana and Cande: A Dominican Family Portrait (2016).

Beyond the world of film, Taub has broad experience in the world of Latin/o dance culture, having lived in the Dominican Republic where he conducted extensive on-site research. He is currently engaged in a groundbreaking research project exploring bachata dance in a way that connects the movement of embodied expression through the Dominican diaspora.

Adam Taub's lecture will start at 7:00pm, and will be followed by an introductory lesson in bachata.
Arrive early at 6:30pm for some light snacks and beverages.
