Kid Kreol & Boogie

Prof. Compan (Associate Professor of French & Francophone Studies) will present the work of two street artists from the Reunion Island: Kid Kreol and Boogie. Followed by a Q&A with the two artists.

Kid Kreol and Boogie have worked together since 2008 painting public murals, first as unsanctioned street artists and later as commissioned artists celebrated for the ways their work expresses the cultural history and identity of Reunion Island with contemporary immediacy and relevance.  Their works can be found throughout Reunion Island, in France, Madagascar, Mauritius Island, and South Africa among other places in both the northern and southern hemispheres.  The work of Kid Kreol and Boogie opens up questions of hauntings and memories, space and place, minor transnationalism, quest of decolonization, and the expression of new cosmogonies while exposing institutional and cultural forces that maintain colonizing practices.
