The Reves Center for International Studies, W&M Arts & Sciences, W&M Creative Writing, and W&M Health & Wellness invite you to "Boiled Owls: A Reading and Conversation with Poet Azad Sharma." Sharma will be reading a selection of poems from his recently released collection Boiled Owls.
This reading will be followed by a panel discussion on the role small presses play in our interconnected world. Joining Sharma for the panel will be W&M's own Jon Pineda, Associate Professor of English, and Teresa Longo, Associate Provost for International Affairs & Executive Director of the Reves Center.
Following the event, there will be a reception in the lobby of the Music Arts Center.
Azad Ashim Sharma is the director of the87press, poetry editor at the CLR James Journal, Philosophy and Global Affairs, and a PhD Candidate in English and Humanities at Birkbeck College, University of London. He holds a BA in English and a Post Graduate Diploma in Critical Theory from the University of Sussex as well as a Masters in Creative-Critical Writing from Birkbeck College. He is the author of three poetry collections, most recently, Boiled Owls (Nightboat Books/Out Spoken Press, 2024). He is the recipient of the Caribbean Philosophical Association’s Nicolás Cristóbal Guillén Batista Outstanding Book Award (2023). He lives in South London. His poetry and essays have been published widely and internationally, most recently in Wasafiri.
