In 1961, America?s most prominent journalist, Edward R. Murrow, ended a quarter-century career with CBS to join President Kennedy?s administration. Fifty years later, Murrow's vision for how to engage a global audience in meaningful dialogue remains valuable for students and practitioners of public diplomacy as they consider how to leverage social media tools, counter violent extremism, and gain credibility in the wake of the recent presidential election.
Tomlin '01 is the author of Murrow's Cold War: Public Diplomacy for the Kennedy Administration. He is presently Chief of Targeting Doctrine and Policy, Directorate for Intelligence, the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Following the talk, copies of Tomlin's book will be sold in the Sadler Center lobby area.
This talk is co-sponsored by the Institute for Theory & Practice of International Relations and the Department of History.
