A&S Graduate Studies
[PAST EVENT] University Teaching Project Workshop
Teaching evaluation matters a great deal to the careers of untenured and non-tenure-eligible faculty, particularly at W&M as a liberal arts university with a strong commitment to student-centered teaching-focused higher education. Student course evaluations, in particular, factor heavily into merit and promotion reviews. Teaching evaluations affect tenure, merit raises, promotion, and continued employment at W&M. This workshop is designed to provide information and an open dialogue on the teaching evaluation process at W&M.
Workshop participants will gain practical information, resources, and a better understanding of W&M?s system of teaching evaluation: how it works, how it may affect them, and how they might be able to make it work best for them, their career, and their teaching.
Panelists: Bill Cooke, Professor of Physics; Iyabo Osiapem, Senior Lecturer of Linguistics and Africana Studies, President of the NTE Faculty Association; John Riofrio, Associate Professor of Hispanic Studies; Joel Schwartz, Professor of Government and Director of the Charles Center
