We will have eight speakers joining us from around the country, each giving a short talk based on "Ideas Worth Spreading". The speakers are as follows:
Tara Leigh Grove is an Associate Professor at William and Mary Law School. Professor Grove received her undergraduate degree summa cum laude from Duke University, where she majored in political science. Professor Grove's research focuses on the federal judiciary and the constitutional separation of powers. She has published with such prestigious law journals as the Harvard Law Review, Columbia Law Review, University of Pennsylvania Law Review, and Cornell Law Review.
Chris Sprigman teaches intellectual property law, antitrust law, competition policy and comparative constitutional law. His scholarship focuses on how legal rules affect innovation and the deployment of new technologies. From 1999 to 2001, Sprigman served as appellate counsel in the Antitrust Division of the U.S. Department of Justice, where he worked on U.S. v. Microsoft, among other matters.
John Glick is the uncle of a current W&M sophomore and alum of the College himself. He met Patch Adams when they were both at medical school at VCU and helped to create the Gesundheit Institute, an organization “based on the belief that one cannot separate the health of the individual from the health of the family, the community, the world, and the health care system itself. In its 40-year history, Gesundheit has offered care to tens of thousands, given workshops and lectures in over 65 countries, built and supported clinics, schools, and orphanages from El Salvador to Cambodia, and brought the joy of clowning to parts of the world damaged by violence and injustice.
Karen Catlin, in partnership with Femgineer, delivers workshops and talks that help women in tech level up in their careers. Previously, she was the CEO of Athentica, an early stage start-up in online learning, and a vice president at Adobe Systems, where she led a department within the office of the CTO. While there, she co-founded the “Adobe & Women initiative, dedicated to attracting, retaining, and providing career development opportunities for women at Adobe.
Paul Dommel is the global Health and Human Services sales leader for the IBM Government Industry. He is responsible for signings and revenue across hardware, software, and services in more than 100 countries around the world. Within IBM, he has been deeply involved in IBM's own transformation. He has lead global planning and strategy initiatives to profitably grow the company and managed teams in the US, Asia Pacific, and Europe.
Dan Murray, a serial entrepreneur, private investor, and a founder of WebFilings/Wdesk, a business reporting Software Company. From its early beginnings in Dan's basement, WebFilings grew to provide its collaborative, cloud-based software to over half of the Fortune 500 in just a few years, revolutionizing financial compliance reporting.
Peter Atwater writes and speaks extensively about how changes in confidence affect our preferences, decisions and actions. He is the author of the book Moods and Markets which details how investors can improve returns by using non-market indicators of confidence.In 2008, Atwater founded Financial Insyghts to provide research on the financial services industry to money managers and hedge funds.
John Elder Robison is the author of Raising Cubby, Look Me in the Eye, My Life with Asperger's, and Be Different - adventures of a free range Aspergian. Later Robison worked on some of the first video games and talking toys at Milton Bradley. Robison is Scholar in Residence at the College of William & Mary in Williamsburg,Virginia, and a member of the Interagency Autism Coordinating Committee of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
