Presenters: L. Eden Burgess, Partner, Cultural Heritage Partners, and Olga Symeonoglu, Associate, Cultural Heritage Partners. The Third Reich left a long legacy of looted art to be restituted, as did other wars and conflicts. The event will include a presentation about how claimants have used the courts to try to right those wrongs. This series of Muscarelle Museum events presented in cooperation with the following: William & Mary Art and Cultural Heritage Law Society; Cultural Heritage Partners, a law firm dedicated exclusively to serving cultural heritage clients; and the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. Through a series of lectures and films in April, we will explore the ethical and legal obligations for the repatriation of Nazi-era looted art while considering the historical and moral obligation to the victims and their descendants.
