[PAST EVENT] Global Friends: Jamestown Event

October 15, 2011
2pm - 4pm
Location
Location not specified
The afternoon will start with some cake and lemonade and then we will have a self-guided tour around the settlement, after which you can stay as long as you wish. It is a great chance to spend time with your Global Friend(s) and explore some local and national history and culture. If you are a W&M student, there is no entrance fee (you must show your W&M ID card).

Jamestown Settlement is a living history museum, and Jamestown played an important role in the history of Virginia and the United States as the first permanent English settlement in the U.S., with colonists arriving there in 1607. Visitors are able to see replicas of the ships the colonists traveled on, the fort the English built, as well as a Powhatan Indian Village. The on-site museum goes into more depth about these, as well as the African slaves that were brought over to Virginia later. More information about Jamestown can be found here: http://www.historyisfun.org/Jamestown-Settlement.htm

We anticipate that students and hosts will make arrangements to get to Jamestown Settlement, but if anyone is in need of transportation, please let us know and we can provide transportation.
