Join us for an evening with two prominent educators from Dublin, who will be discussing the state of education in Ireland.

Joe O'Hara, Ph.D. is the Inaugural Professor of Education at the Dublin City University Institute of Education and the former Head of the School of Education Studies at DCU.  

A Never-Ending Story? Reconceptualizing Initial Teacher Education in Ireland  The past decade has a seen a significant change in how the Irish education system thinks about and engages with the process of initial teacher education. Dr. O?Hara?s talk will examine the impact of this ?reconceptualization? on teacher education, focusing in particular on the experience of Dublin City University, which has become the home of Ireland?s only Faculty of Education.

Colm O?Reilly, Ph.D. is the Director of the Irish Centre for Talented Youth (CTYI) at Dublin City University.


CTY Ireland ? Helping Gifted Students to Reach Their Potential CTY Ireland (CTYI) at Dublin City University is a not-for-profit organization that works with high ability children aged 6 to 16. CTYI offers fast paced university style courses for academically talented students from all over Ireland and overseas. CTYI was recently awarded an EU research grant to design an online program for teachers of gifted students in regular classrooms. Dr. O?Reilly?s talk will describe the work of CTYI in relation to gifted education in Ireland.
