Hurricanes are a fact of life, especially if you live near the coast. Learn more about them, including how they form and why their strength has been impacted by global change, with Dr. Dalia B. Kirschbaum, chief of the Hydrological Sciences Laboratory at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center. Her interdisciplinary lab conducts large-scale research to examine the role of water on the Earth and in its atmosphere using data from NASA’s satellites, land surface models, and fieldwork.

Discovery Labs are presented by the Chesapeake Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve in Virginia (CBNERR-VA) at VIMS. These labs provide fun, family-friendly opportunities to learn about the Chesapeake Bay and our local environment. Each lab includes a short presentation followed by activity demonstrations and trivia games. Resources are also provided for kids and adults to further their exploration of the topic at home. Discovery Labs are free; registration is required to receive online access. Register now!
