Ken Jordan,University of Pittsburgh, presents ?Rings, Cages, Prisms, Cubes: The Myriad Forms of Water Clusters.?

Water in the form of clusters or in confining environments can have properties very different from those of bulk water. In this talk, I will focus on water clusters which, in addition to being fascinating in their own right, allow us to elucidate issues that are hard to address in studies of bulk water. In particular, cluster studies enable researchers to bring to bear experimental and computational methods that cannot be applied to macroscopic samples and thus provide new insights into the nature of H-bonding networks and how they accommodate excess electrons and protons and other ions.
