Speaker: Prof. Denys Poshyvanyk from CS@W&M

This talk is aimed at undergraduate students who are interested in obtaining a Ph.D. degree in Computer Science. More specifically, I will try to cover the topics and answer the questions that undergraduate students frequently ask about graduate school:

What is a Ph.D. in CS and Why Should you Consider It?

How is a Ph.D. different from MS?

How to prepare a strong application for admissions?

What is a typical admissions process and the timeline?

How to make a smooth transition from undergrad to a graduate school?

How to find an advisor?

How to choose a research specialty area?

How to navigate graduate school toward a rewarding Ph.D.?

What are the differences/tradeoffs between a research career in industry, academia, government?

We will also leave plenty of time to answer any questions that students might have.
