This lecture explores celebrated Israeli authors who write influential children's books. It discusses how newer generations moved away from early Zionist themes of collectivity and heroism, while still continuing the Zionist tradition of viewing children's literature as a vital national mission.

Dr. Ofra Amihay is the Anna Smith Fine Lecturer at the Program in Jewish Studies at Rice University. Born and raised in Israel, Amihay is a scholar of Hebrew and comparative literature with a special interest in text and image relations.
