Ryan Mutter

Please join us in-person to hear Ryan Mutter, Ph.D., speak about “Responding to the Opioid Crisis.” Dr. Mutter, a W&M alum, is an Analyst at the Health Policy Studies Unit, Health Analysis Division of the U.S. Congressional Budget Office. He received a BA in economics from W&M, and later obtained a PhD in Public Policy from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County.

Dr. Mutter has written extensively on substance use as well as mental health. Among his many articles are the following:

* Recreational Marijuana Laws and the Use of Opioids: Evidence form NSDUH Microdata

* Medical Marijuana Laws, Marijuana Use, and Opioid-Related Outcomes Among Women in the United States

* Elevated Prevalence of Antisocial Behavior in Adolescent Children Whose Mothers Misuse Opioids

In 2019, Dr. Mutter received a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation grant under its Health Data for Action program. The project, entitled “Use of Pharmacotherapy and Psychosocial Therapy for the Treatment of Opioid Use Disorder,” was designed to help “inform payers and policymakers about the resource use and potential outcomes of different courses of treatment for patients with OUD.”
