[PAST EVENT] Learning from Teaching - A Talk by Ross Chambers
April 11, 2013
4:30pm - 6:30pm
The Department of Modern Languages and Literatures at the College of William and Mary is pleased to announce a visit by Ross Chambers, April 10-11. One of the leading literary critics in the world today, Prof. Chambers' critical oeuvre spans five decades, 12 books and countless articles on 19th/20th-century world literature, and on topics, themes, and questions as varied as: narratology, poetics, irony, melancholy, the rhetoric and aporias of witnessing and testimony in AIDS memoirs, and literary excess. A member of the prestigious French Ordre des palmes academiques, the Australian Academy of Arts and Sciences, the Academy of Literary Studies, and only non-francophone member of the OULIPO group, Ross Chambers will present a talk entitled: "Learning from Teaching", part intellectual biography, part foray into how we think about the relations between humor, irony, pedagogy and identity in the classroom. Event open to all, light refreshments served after the talk.
