Visiting Assistant Professor of Hispanic Studies Sowmya Ramanathan received her PhD from Princeton. She is a scholar of 20th and 21st-century Latin American literature and culture working at the intersections of avant-garde, gender, sexuality, and affect studies. Her current manuscript-in-progress, titled Textures of the Sensible: Reading Affect in Diamela Eltit, examines the work of Chilean writer, artist, and activist, Diamela Eltit. In addition to this project, her interests include women writers in Latin America, transnational feminism and political resistance, and the relationship between literature, media, and contemporary technologies.
Visiting Assistant Professor of Hispanic Studies Catherine Brix received her PhD from Notre Dame. She specializes in contemporary Latin American literature and cultural studies, particularly Southern Cone testimonial literature from the Dirty War. Her research uses interdisciplinary methodologies from political theory, gender studies, and peace studies and focuses on intersections of literature, art, and human rights issues.
