Professor Zubok is one of the world's leading specialists on the history of the Cold War, on U.S.-Russian relations, and on changes in Russian culture in the Soviet and post-Soviet periods.

His recent publications include A Failed Empire: the Soviet Union in the Cold War from Stalin to Gorbachev (University of North Carolina Press, 2007), which received the Marshall Shulman prize as "an outstanding monograph on the international behavior of the countries of the former communist bloc," and Zhivago's Children: The Last Russian Intelligentsia (Belknap Press. Harvard University Press, 2009).

In this talk, Zubok will explore how changing U.S. and Russian images of the other country have impacted the bilateral relationship since the collapse of communism, and tell us what to expect in U.S.-Russian relations as Vladimir Putin returns to the Russian presidency this year.
