As Charlottesville continues to be on our minds, on September 27, from 12:00 to 1:00 and September 28, 12:30-1:30, William & Mary faculty with expertise in international affairs will meet to discuss the question:
?How does knowledge of the world beyond our shores help us understand and respond to the events in our sister-city in August 2017?'
- September 27 panel: Professors Andrea Wright (Anthropology and Asian and Middle East Studies) and Oludamini Ogunnaike (Religious Studies)
- September 28 panel: Professors Jeremy Stoddard (School of Education), Stephen Sheehi (Asian and Middle East Studies and Arabic Studies) and Linda Malone (Law School)
The discussion will take into account such concepts as policy and rhetoric, civil rights, human rights, free speech and hate speech, and the role of the universities in times of crisis and change.
Both sessions will be held at the Reves Center for International Studies. They are free and open to the public, but space is limited.
If you plan to attend one or both sessions, please RSVP to international@wm.edu by September 25.
