Interested in incorporating GIS into your career path? Want to learn more about searching for jobs in the GIS field? Considering pursuing a GISP, or geographic information systems professional, certification? The Center for Geospatial Analysis will host Dr. Matt Gerike (GISP) and Dr. Shannon White, two experienced GIS educators and professionals, on April 22nd at 2:00 pm to hold an open information session about GIS careers, building your GIS portfolio, and the GISP certification. The session will take place in-person at the CGA (Swem 213).
About Matt Gerike:
Matt Gerike, PhD, GISP, is a Geospatial Program Manager with Virginia’s 9-1-1 & Geospatial Services Bureau focusing on GIS in Next Generation 9-1-1 and supporting local governments and 9-1-1 centers across the Commonwealth. Over the past twenty years Matt has managed GIS offices and technology projects in local government, worked with state level GIS clearinghouses and data implementation projects, and has taught GIS, mapping, and geography courses at several colleges and universities. Matt works with URISA's Professional Education Committee and Next Generation 9-1-1 Task Force and contributes to National Emergency Number Association (NENA) work groups relating to GIS.
About Shannon White:
Dr. Shannon H. White is a faculty member in the Center for Geospatial Analysis at William & Mary, in Williamsburg, VA. She has focused on teaching, learning, outreach & research in GIS and geospatial technologies for over 20 years. She works in K-12, Higher Education and with Professional organizations in her geospatial outreach. Beyond teaching, in her current roles, Shannon connects undergraduate and graduate students to research and real world opportunities with community engaged partnerships. Additionally, she is an FAA certified Remote pilot and teaches and conducts outreach around sUAS technology in community events and K-12 settings.
