Join us for October's After Hours lecture on the 29th at 7 PM.

Tunas and billfishes are among the fastest and most wide-ranging fishes of the open ocean.  These species support some of the largest commercial fisheries in the world and are highly valued by recreational fisheries.  The taxonomy, biology, fisheries, and conservation status of the 51 species of tunas, bonitos, and mackerels, and the 10 species of billfishes were recently summarized with beautiful illustrations of each species in Tunas and Billfishes of the World.  Please join authors Bruce Collette and John Graves, and illustrator Val Kells as they discuss some of the highlights of these incredible fish, as well as their five-year journey to create the book. Get a signed copy of the book here. Quantities are limited.

Bruce Collette is a research associate with the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History and the chair of the Tuna and Billfish Specialist Group of the International Union for the Conservation of Nature. He is a leader in the field of marine ichthyology and conservation.

John Graves is the Chancellor Professor of Marine Science at the Virginia Institute of Marine Science and an internationally recognized expert on the biology, fisheries, and management of tunas and billfishes.

Val Kells is a widely recognized marine science illustrator. She has coauthored and illustrated several field guides for coastal and freshwater fishes.
