These Sacred Hills is a powerful three-year collaboration between filmmakers Jacob Bailey, Christopher Ward, and members of the Rock Creek Band of the Yakama Nation.
The film follows key community members—Elaine Harvey, Bronsco Jim, Jeremy Takala, and others—as they confront a proposed green energy project threatening their sacred mountain, Pushpum, and vital cultural resources. As they fight to protect the land, the film captures their struggle to preserve the rights to fish, hunt, and gather, safeguarding their sacred practices and way of life for future generations. Featuring insights from indigenous affairs reporter Toastie Oaster of High Country News and historian/Professor Andrew Fisher of William & Mary, the film deepens the conversation about environmental justice, cultural preservation, and the protection of indigenous sovereignty in the face of modern development.
