Minnijean Brown Trickey will speak about her experience as a lifelong activist and the power of centering nonviolence in every aspect of her life. She will openly share her journey of being thrust into the international spotlight as one of the first nine Black students (Little Rock Nine) to desegregate Little Rock Central High School in 1957, and how the practice of nonviolence shielded her spirit in the face of grave danger and violence. She will interrogate the violence of current-day systemic racism and reignite the philosophy of nonviolence as a way of life for the next generation. This is event is in collaboration with Williamsburg Regional Library.
