The Gulf Oil Spill: Five years on
In April 2010, the Deepwater Horizon drilling rig failed catastrophically, killing 11 people and producing the largest oil spill in U.S. history. Join VIMS alumnus Michael Carron, Director of the Gulf of Mexico Research Initiative, as he recounts the immediate impacts of the spill, and explores what science tells us about its long-term effects. GoMRI is an independent, 10-year research program established by BP to investigate the impacts of oil and dispersants on the Gulf ecosystem and public health.
The lecture is the April installment of the 2015 After Hours series, which helps mark VIMS' 75th anniversary with presentations following the "Then, Now, and Next" theme of our anniversary celebration.
Reservations to this free public lecture series are required due to limited space. Call 804-684-7061 for further information.
