The Haven is partnering with Tribe Adventure Programs (TAP) at the Rec. Center to offer a therapeutic recreation trip specifically for survivors of sexual assault. The Haven has been exploring other options for students who have experienced trauma to engage with alternative supports that can foster healing and connection. For some, traditional talk-therapy can feel limiting and/or re-traumatizing. More and more, opportunities that are movement-based, nature-based, art-based, and recreational are being explored as another avenue for survivors of trauma to connect to themselves and others and feel more grounded.

This trip will occur the weekend of November 11-12 (Sat-Sun) and will consist of camping at Chickahominy Riverfront Park in James City County. We will hike, canoe, and enjoy a camp fire. There is no expectation to discuss or disclose your own personal story. There will be one required informational session that all participants must attend prior to the trip. Participation is limited to 6 students, so sign-up is first come, first serve. To sign up, please fill out this form and the Director of The Haven will contact you with more information. If you have further questions about this trip, please contact Liz Cascone at [[lizcascone]].

All are welcome on this trip. Participants may have diverse gender identities and/or expressions, including the staff who will be leading the trip from TAP and The Haven. It?s important you are comfortable with male-identified, female-identified, and gender non-conforming/gender queer identified participants and staff.
