The Great W&M Asia Cook Off! Judged by Celebrity Chef Katsuya Fukushima and Award-Winning Restauranteur Yama Juwayni

Students from Professor Stephen Sheehi's courses (Arab 150: The History of Arab Food vs AMES 385: AMES East Asia Think Tank) will spar in a cook-off, where they have to present a dish with a common element to a panel of guest judges.

Guest judges include Celebrity Chef Katsuya Fukushima (chef and co-owner of Daikaya-Izakaya, Haikan, and Bantam King) and nationally-acclaimed Washington DC restauranteur Yama Jewayni (co-owner of Daikaya-Izakaya, Haikan, and Bantam King, Marvin, and The Gibson), both nominated multiple times for numerous RAMMY awards. Chef Katsuya will also present a cooking demo to the classes but earlier in the day, he will be demonstrating at lunch time Sadler's Center Court (Monday Dec.3). Approximately ten teams for Professor Sheehi's two courses will present a dish and also tell about its history and cultural import.

The event is sponsored by Asian and Middle East Studies (AMES), the Asian and Pacific Islander American Program (APIA), the Decolonizing Humanities Project, Global Studies, the Freeman Fellowship Program, the Office of the Dean of Arts and Sciences, and the Charles Center.
