The George Tayloe Ross Addresses on International Peace series provides for an address or series of lectures given annually, under the auspices of the Faculty of Arts & Sciences, dealing with international topics and to promote peace. Professor Timur Kuran from Duke University presents "Religious and Legal Roots of Authoritarianism in the Middle East" as part of this series. Kuran is Professor of Economics and Political Science, and Gorter Family Professor of Islamic Studies at Duke University. His research focuses on social change, including the evolution of preferences and institutions, and the economic history and thought of the Middle East.
