[PAST EVENT] Growing (Brave) by Reflection: William & Mary Men as Survivors, Supporters, and Solutions
As men, we support survivors; we also know that some of us are silent survivors needing support.
We may not recognize every perpetrator, yet we know that male-identified persons are more likely to disrespect the bodily integrity of others in ways that are as unethical as they are criminal.
As men, we know that we are better than this, and deep inside we know that the solution to ending those acts of violence lies not in teaching one sex or gender to defend itself from all others, but rather in creating a culture where rapists cease raping and potential rapists never start.
For those among us who are unaware of that fact, the time has come to make ourselves aware.
The season of change is now.
If you identify as a male within the William & Mary community (faculty, staff, ally, or student), please join us for this intersectional dialogue and its charge to act with grace and courage.
Let us assume any blame, yet not be painted with the same broad brush; let us move towards a common hope with multiple entry points; and let us help each other build our capacity to attend to our values, so that this world becomes an even happier, healthier, safer space for all its inhabitants.

About our facilitator, E. M. Garrison, MAEd '94, MSc (London), DLSHTM, CSC, ACS:
Garrison currently serves as an Assistant Director of Health Promotion and advisor to HOPE (along with Mayanthi Jayawardena, T Davis, and Kelly Crace) and as the Chair of the Virginia Campus Task Force to End Sexual Violence. An international consultant and speaker in clinical and forensic sexology ("Our highest praises," Oxford University), our first instructor of Masculinity Studies here at the College, and a former sexuality counselor with the Masters & Johnson Institute, Garrison will channel his inner Paolo Freire to facilitate an exchange of ideas and emotions that could guide us from a place of agitation & anger to one of action & accord.
