In 1987, the NAMES Project (the Quilt) went on display for the first time on the Mall in DC.

Approximately the size of the average grave (3'x6'), each hand-made panel commemorates the lives of one friend or family member who died from HIV or AIDS-related complications.

This short documentary covers the early history of the Quilt, a living and growing memorial that started with one panel and now contains almost 50,000. A brief discussion will follow.
